10/14/07
I just did the Tampa Barbell Invitational yesterday and I regret to say that I did not have a very good day. I got one pr and only went 5 for 9. Here’s how it all went down…
Squat 880 opener went very good and was fast and easy. 940 was shaky all the way through with my hips shifting throughout. I finally lost it at the bottom by sitting back too far to compensate for the suit pulling me forward. I believe the straps were too tight. 940 again – loosened the straps and felt good and tight on the descent. I got the up call and shifted to my toes for some reason and ended up trying to do a good morning with it.
Bench 585 opener was good and had speed all the way through the lift. 635 went up too slow and I could not lock it out once again. 635 again – had more speed off the chest and locked out my right arm but the left side got caught under the lip of the rack and I couldn’t recover the bar and lock it out.
Deadlift 600 opener came off the floor real easy. 650 was pretty easy too 700 started real fast and caught me by surprise. It slowed at the top as usual and I was able to pull through it and lock it out for 3 whites. A 28# pr.
I ended with a 2165 total which is not too bad for going 5 for 9 I suppose.
Brian Schwab did and amazing 600# bench @ 165 and once again has shown us how spectacular a powerlifter he is.
John Land impressed us all with his 540 bench @ 181 and is improving everyday.
Kalin Chester had an awesome day and had pr’s across the board. He hit a 550 squat, 520 bench and a 425 pull. It’s an honor to have him as a training partner.
Tampa Barbell and Tommy Fannon did a hell of a job with their first meet and had kick ass awards for the lifters, gift certificates, t-shirts, etc. The music was great and so were the lifters. I look forward to doing the meet again next year.

It was good having you down this weekend Joe, don't let this meet even fuck with you bro. You joined the 700lb deadlift club so now you know that is there for your total. Just work on those things we talked about and come Jan you will be on fire. Once again it was great having you down and looking forward to coming to OBB to train sometime with you guys.

Thanks for your hospitality, Mike. I appreciate it more than you know. I'll be happy to return the favor if you're ever over this way. Good job on all your lifts. You are an awesome lifter!

Saturday 10/20/07
Bench 135x20 185x15 225x15 275x10 315x7
135x5 w/1 green band pulled under bench 225x7 275x3 295x2
Fat bar tricep extensions 90x10x4
Not too bad for the first day back I suppose…
I decided not to wear my shirt today in order to give my joints some rest from the excessive weights I have been handling all year. Running meets 8 weeks apart 5 times this year has taken a toll on my shoulders and elbows. I am contemplating doing away with speed bench for a little while to allow them to rest even more. We’ll see what comes of it.
