Well...I have just gotten home from working, and I mean working 36 hours straight. My regular 24 hour shift got extended per one of our Division Chiefs. My pager went off at 05:00 this mornring stating that A shift was on mandentory hold over. This my friends is what I have been doing...it may not be GYM training, but I worked my buttocks off. Sunday at 12:30 Sunday afternoon our company got a "wire down" call, we marked on seen to a snapped powerline. With 50-60 mile an hour wind gusts and a very dry urban interface we had a couple of acres on fire in about 20 minutes. Sunday my company hiked miles to get to the head of the fire and cut and raked fire lines to try to keep the fire from jumping on us. But, like I said with 50 mile and hours gusts that beast just wouldn't be contained. Our command pulled every one out at one point because we were gonna get circled fast. So, we hiked off the mountain, pulled hose after hose, and pretty much took over citizens backyards to try to keep the fire off there houses. We so far have been successful at protecting the structures. Today 2000 acres has burned and with no rain in the forcast until tomorrow, the guys on the mountain will be settling in for another long night.
I go back tomorrow at 6AM, with blistered feet from hiking and humping hose, blisterd hands from raking fire lines, and a nasty cough from breathing in smoke.
This had been my "workout" for the past 36 hours, I wouldn't be or do anything else in my life than be the person that answers a 911 call. Pray for us, pray for rain.

Robyn, I really admire what you do and your co fireman as well. I takes special people with major heart and desire to do what you do. Even though I don't live where this is at I appreciate your efforts. The "Firemen" here in our small town always make me laugh. They are Volunteer fireman mind you, which I don't look down upon but there are really no major fire here, no big city stuff but they act like they are freaking Gods or something. Most just a bunch of fat rednecks trying to be a part of something that makes them feel important. I always tell some of these wannabes I would love to see how they acted if they seen real fire and how they would;d act then. Sorry for the rant but you have no idea. I hope you get some rest and be safe. My prayers are with you and your crew. On a side note I was looking through some of last years PL USA mags and was looking through the Sept. 07 and guess who I seen....Robyn styling in there with her big total as usual. Great job. Be safe girl....
