Joey asked me Saturday to start posting my training on the board. Figured I may as well start with Saturday's results from the APF meet and run from there. This meet was huge with over 30 pre entries and about 70 lifters. Overall, it was a very well ran meet and I saw a number of great lifts. My day was not so great. I had a really good training cycle this time and the strength gains showed but not much else. I didn't have any real expectations for this meet and that may have been part of the problem. Anyway, I went 1 for 6 on the day. My openers were Sq 250k (551.15 lbs), BP 160k (352.7 lbs) and DL 210k (463 lbs). My first squat I set up badly and in hind site should have reracked the weight and started over. I decided to take it down anyway and about halfway down felt the bar rolling down my back. I cut the squat short to prevent jeopordizing myself and the spotters. Second lift was much better set up wise but was called for depth. Travis said I was within an inch but came up too soon. Third attempt, Travis called me down to depth and got 3 whites. The weight was never a problem here as I did 585 for a triple two weeks ago. I just had some technical issues that caused me to hear the words we all dread from the announcer. "Let's get behind him folks, he needs this to stay in the meet." I never want to hear these words again. On to bench.
Opened with 160k and again the weight was no problem. Unfortunately, got two reds for butt coming up. Went to 170k (374.8 lbs) as this was again a technical issue and not a weight issue. I moved my legs out a little to keep my butt down. The weight was no issue again but got two reds for butt up. Kept the same weight, shifted legs further out and tried again on third. Heard the same words from the announcer that I still don't want to hear. Again got called for butt. WTF??? So I am out of the meet. I got all three lifts on video and they were good calls. This is a technical issue that I will be addressing in the coming cycle. The good side of this is the strength was there but I have to work on my form to make sure this is not a problem come nationals.
The best part of the weekend was my son came home from Iraq on Thursday and drove over from Cherry Point to visit and cheer me on. Kyle offered to let me deadlift after the bench bomb but I chose to spend the time with my son instead. I got to spend the rest of Saturday and yesterday with him and it is amazing how mature he has become. We are trying to make plans to compete together later this year.
The lessons learned are that the last training cycle was a good one for me, strength wise, and I will continue to use a variation of it for this cycle. I have some technical issues to work on for this cycle to make sure my butt stays down in the bench without losing my leg drive. Now it is time to kick it in gear for May nationals! I am going to take a few days to rest and recover and will begin posting this training cycle later in the week.
