How often do you train deads? I am considering once every two weeks.
I also have a hard time holding onto the bar when I go heavy. I use an alternated grip with thumbs wrapped. I have to alternate my hand position.
any ideas Derek?

every 2 weeks should be fine as long as you dont go real heavy each time. i would suggest finding a max when you have some training time way before a meet and then start on a coan/phillipi deadlift routine. you can do that routine weekly or interchange it with box squats every other week. as far as grip goes, static holds in a rack for time would be good along with farmers walk. you can train the grip work with a thumbless cup grip if you feel frisky also. are you pulling sumo or conventional?

as you know the deadlift is my weakest lift. I bench (raw) thumbless and equipped wrapped. Maybe that is what I need on the deadlift.
I am in between a conventional and sumo. My arms are outside of my legs but my legs are wider than a normal conventional deadlifter. I goofed around and went up to 400 pretty easy buy my grip is not too good as I get heavier.
thanks

fire man you need to strat hook gripin so you don`t have any trouble with the bar coming out of your hands man it`s the best grip for deads easy on the shoulders and much easyer to push your hips thru at lockout to

What are static holds?....do you have a pic or vid?.... static holds are a rack pull off a high pin held at lockout for a long period of time to create grip strength for the deadlift. this is the position you should be in during a static hold. of course straps are a no no here. you can do timed sets of 10-30 seconds with a lighter weight or go heavier and do timed sets to failure. you could do the same thing with db's or farmers walk handles.

you don`t have to have a good grip to pull hook man your thumbs lock it in its been my experience that you do. i've seen several people use it (including myself) and it lasts until the weights get heavy then they start to slip. of course everyone is different and it may work better for some people but for most its easier to use the switch grip, hence you see most people using it.

Tadpole is the man on this issue, he convinced me at the last meet to try it in my warm ups and I went with it and ended the day with a PR! I personally see no way it could slip unless your thumb pulled off. Suck it up and deal with the 3 seconds of pain and hit a PR!!!!!!!
