Thanks, Marty. That's probably a good idea... although, I don't have easy access to kettlebells. I've got bands and thinking that those would be good for the little stabilizing muscles too. Thoughts? i wouldnt use a lot of band tension, i've got 2 bad shoudlers and they kill me with double up minis. She is probably stronger than you D and could handle the bands since you are still in diapers the rest of us grown folk can handle doing a lil more....good luck on healing up....I think its great they we are giving a future MD all this advice and your the one with all the knowledge and schooling!....lol....

LOL... thanks, Joey. I'm always open for advice/suggestions. I may have the schooling, but others may have the personal experiences that will help me along. Plus, I'm pretty new to this thing they called lifting weights.

I woke up this morning so excited. I was thinking that I was nearly done with this car accident. I mean, I only have to see the wrist/thumb doctor if I need to; I finished physical therapy yesterday; and, today was supposed to be my last appointment with my shoulder doc. Oh, but no... too good be true. ARGH!!
Everything is going well with wrist. It still swells a little after workouts and aches sometimes but all-in-all it's good. The thumb is doing well after the latest cortisone shot. I'm hoping it'll fix the problem, but if not, we'll see. And, the shoulder is doing well too. Just some muscular weakness and a little decreased range of motion, but I'm ok with that. All will improve with training and time.
So, I go to the doctor this morning, thinking I was supposed to be discharged. He asks how the shoulder is and I tell him it's good, just still a little difficulty with external rotation and a little weakness in the rotator cuff muscles that allow the humeral head to move forward when I do a few movements. But, I assured him that I knew that that would improve with time and strengthening. He asked some questions about those movements, physical therapy, school, etc. And, then, somewhere in there my mom and dad pipe up and say that I've been lifting weights again. I swear, the doctor's eyes bugged out and he went ghost white. He got all serious, did a thorough check of the shoulder and told me that I shouldn't be doing that yet... NOT FOR 6 MONTHS. I asked him how he could have "athlete" in his business's name, know I was a lifter and not expect that I would go back to it when I felt good. LOL... So, he said that I can continue, but to stay at 50%, only do 10% increases, and he wants to see me again in a month.
I just want to be done with this darn thing!!

Thanks, D.
10.28.06 - Squat at Puke's
bar 2 x 6 95 1 x 4 135 2 x 4 185 1 x 4 - belt 185 1 x 3 - RB said to rack it because he thought the bar was rolling 135 1 x 4 135 1 x 2 - left hip popped out
I'm finding it very hard to get my head into these workouts. I enjoy squatting. I really do but I'm finding that I have to stay serious and focused in order to take the pathetically light weights serious. As for the hip, it really did sublux on the ascent. That wasn't fun, not horribly painful, just weird coming up.
With the boys' meet being next weekend, I most likely won't be squatting again for about 2 weeks.

Sorry to hear about your doc's orders, Heather. Just listen to your body and act accordingly and you won't go wrong. Weird about the hip -- never heard of that. Has it ever happened to you before?

Sorry to hear about your doc's orders, Heather. Just listen to your body and act accordingly and you won't go wrong. Weird about the hip -- never heard of that. Has it ever happened to you before? Thanks for your support, M. My doctors may not like it but I'll continue doing what I'm doing. I'm not one to sit back and watch, nor be held down. At least not for long. Plus, happy emotions have been linked to better healing, so why not do what makes me happy?!? I definitely listen more to my body when I know I have an injury. My doctors just need to learn that about me. As for the hip... I have really loose joints. It's the one thing that makes me not right for PLing... I've got the height, the build, the spirit... Anyway, with the loose joints, I've learned to control them with my strength. It's just every once in a while, it fails on me. It's rare though, thank goodness. My hips haven't popped out before in training, but I was achy a while back. That's when I got a pair of single denim briefs--to help hold me in, give me a little support. I need to make some alterations to them (shorten the legs mainly)... I just hadn't planned on making them just yet. Got to go dust off the sewing machine again.

Thanks, Joey, for your kind words and the swift kick in the ass. I feel like I've been pouty lately. With my training partners competing in a meet this weekend, I'm taking this week off, so to speak (minus piddly band work) to regroup. I love this sport. I'm so glad I found it and to be honest, it filled a gap I'd been feeling in my life since having to quit dancing. I still have the passion... I want to train... I want to get strong... I want to get on that platform for myself and to prove to those that have doubted me. I just need to remember my body isn't 100% yet and to be patient. Might need you all to remind me of that too. Thanks to everyone that's stopped in to read my log and help me. I appreciate it.

And, it's my belief that anyone can give advice. You just need to make sure it's something you know and you're not blowing smoke up someone's ass. You have experiences that others can learn from. And, yes, kick my ass... I need it for sure, and my training partners would probably agree too.

Thanks, Greg. I'll be doing some tweaks on them this week and will hopefully have them ready to go for next squat day. They are a little loose on me... training briefs, no doubt, but still helpful. On another note, I just got back from the Texas Cup (a really well run, exciting meet) where my training partners competed and did incredibly well. One TP (242 class) went 5 for 9 with 4 PRs hitting 755 squat, 451 bench, and 551 dead, totalling 1757 which is a 116 lb PR. My other TP (308 class) also went 5 for 9 with 4 PRs hitting 942 squat, 573 bench, and 673 dead, totalling 2188 and earning him his elite. We also had a bench only buddy (242 class) come up with us and hit his goal of 601. It was a smooth, beautiful bench. He gave 617 a ride but was just plum worn out. It was a great weekend. It was tough watching everyone lift, being that I should have been out there, but it was good for the motivation. I got to judge most of the meet which in itself was exciting. I love this stuff and I'm ready to hit the training again... I have some unknown meet to get ready for.
