Another day of boring crap but still allowing my elbow some down time. I really hated I could not bench with my team today. On tap was reverse band bench. I really love this movement and it was killing me not to be able to bench with them. I have set up everyone’s training numbers and training (which relates to mine just different numbers for each of them). Everyone had a great day today and everyone all hit their numbers. Its great having a full house each training session plus seeing everyone support one another and see each of them getting better and strong(er) each week.
On a side note I was glad to see the Jets win and knock the Patriots out. I am a huge Rex Ryan fan. He talks the talk and walks the walk. I would like to see them go all the way.

I know I know my deads are pathetic. This is really the first time I have pulled heavy, well heavy for me since my meet in November. I got to get use to wearing this suit. I feel like a fish out of water right now. It’s going to take some time to learn but I will get it figured out.
I will be getting some great help with my deads from a great lifter, Al Caslow. I really thank Al for the help I will receive from him. I will start taking different camera angles of my deads to first let Al see my pathetic technique and see what we can do to get that fixed first. Al has helped many lifters with their deadlift and I feel honored to be one of those to receive his advice and guidance.
One of our newest team members DaVon Gardner whom has never trained deadlift before pulled 500 pounds tonight which blew my mind. It’s a gym lift so we are not critiquing it but a very good job I must say. The kid is very gifted and very strong. I am looking for big things to come from him in the future.
Everyone did well tonight. As I said in my last post I am very happy with our growing team and the support and friendships of great training partners we have. Great night tonight guys.

Took another light day while my team benched today. Giving my elbow this rest is really helping. The pain has subsided substantially. I am hoping maybe this Sunday to take a stab at putting the bar in my hands to see what happens.
Two of my guys will be doing the SPF meet here in NC April 16th. Mark and Robbie done a great job last year with their first meet and I ran the mic which was real fun. I am really glad the SPF has come into NC. We needed a great federation to come here and put on great meets.
On a side note my daughter and I done our yearly watching of the opening episode of American Idol. My daughter loves the show and I must admit I have grown to enjoy it as well. As we were watching it tonight a girl from Lumberton, NC at the age of 16 came on to audition and did a great job and got sent to Hollywood. Very cool to see a local on American Idol do well. We wish her the best and look forward to seeing her perform again on the show.

Great News, Finally....my blood test results with amazing results! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My doctor was able to get a hold of me today and give me my blood test results from the other week. Six months ago I had my yearly physical and he had my blood drawn to have numerous things tested. The thing that jumped out to him was my cholesterol. He informed me it was really bad and really high. If I did not get a handle on it I would have to be put on some kind of cholesterol medication to bring it down. I told him to give me six months and I would change my diet and bring it down myself. He told me he doubted I could just with my diet alone and would be surprised if it dropped enough not to be on some medication.
Six months ago results.... here are the results from my blood test for my cholesterol:
Six months ago numbers:
Total Cholesterol - 298
Triglyceride - 244
HDL (good cholesterol)- 35
LDL (bad cholesterol) - 210
New results after change in diet six months later:
Total Cholesterol - 195 (103 points diff)
Triglyceride - 115 (129 points diff)
HDL (good cholesterol)- 28 (7 points diff)
LDL (bad cholesterol) - 144 (66 points diff)
My doctor told me he had never seen this dramatic of a change ever in six months and with diet alone without medication. I was very happy to hear this. I have really cleaned up my diet and cut out allot of junk I was eating before. I am glad I do not have to take any cholesterol medication now. I did hate giving up my whole milk, egg yolks, doughnuts and other yummies but I but I do feel better and obviously I am healthier than six months ago. I will stay the path and keep my plates clean of junk.
If yours is as high as mine was you can change it. If I can anyone can. __________________

Elbow was feeling better today. Three weeks of rest has really helped. I actually felt as if I did something today. All sets felt easy and strong. Looking forward to getting back in the groove of my bench training. Heeling continues and the shirt will be going on soon.
Everyone is on track with their bench training for their meets. Fun having so many guys training on bench and Tim having someone push him hard each week now.
Going to eat and kick back and watch this super bowl. I don’t care for either team but I will pull for the Steelers. Lesser of the two evils I guess for me. Should be a good game.

This is the type of stuff I will do every other week on Wednesdays. Next Wednesday I will pull as instructed then the next week I will do only Acc type stuff and rehab. This will allow my lower back time to heal up and not affect my squat so much each week. I will change the acc week exercises as well. Nothing will be too taxing on my back though.
We also added another lifter tonight. This makes six. Josh used to train with us till he moved but has gotten his schedule changed to where he can pull with us and bench with us each week. We will have big Robbie Robinson squatting with us every other Friday as well. Its great having all these lifters training with us.

Elbow felt good today. One problem seems to be getting fixed now another pops up. I am getting my yearly winter sinus infection which I am so stoked about. I will call the doc and get him to call me in a Z Pack for me to help clear this up. My head felt like blowing up today along with me not being able to breathe.
Looking forward to the Carolina, Duke game tonight. Here in NC this is the game of the season each time these two play. I pull for Duke which is no the in vogue thing around these parts but oh well. I have been rooting for them for 30+ years.
Congrats to Clint Smith and Zane Geeting on joining team EliteFTS. Very deserving lifters.

Well this was a first today.... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been progressively getting sicker and sicker as each day has passed this week. At first I thought it was just my sinuses. Then my throat started hurting. Coughing got worse, then fever, now I got fluid coming out of each end. I thought I would get all Matt K and all and suck it up and train like a man today. Well that idea fell by the wayside as I was walking towards the gym today. As I threw my hand up to a couple my teammates that were standing at the door I felt my stomach rumble and I bent over puking out all my breakfast I just ate. Dang it all that protein was not fertilizing the grass! Truth be told my golden retriever Nemo probably came over and cleaned it up. He is a nasty one! The guys knew I was sick and told me there was no way I was coming in there and getting them sick. So I walked my wussy butt back to the house, cleaned up, brushed my chops and went back to sleep. Heck I just got up! Not much on the diet today. Really just fluids and fruits and meds. I will be going to the doc tomorrow if this is not better.

This is the first action I have seen in the gym since last Wednesday. I have had the full-blown flu like I have never had before. Pukeing everyday, diarrhea, body aches like I had been beat with a bat, sinus probs, not being able to breathe, the full gambit. I went into work for a couple hours Thursday and completely took Friday off. I got some antibiotics, Nyquil, some pain medicine and nose spray and rested. I am not back 100% but feeling better. The worse is over I hope. Never been this sick before.
All my sets felt nice and easy. My elbow is feeling so much better and is in the 90% range now. I will hit my De day Wednesday and hope to get into my shirt next Sunday, which I am looking forward to. I will give some more insight on my training this week and food intake as well. Eating has been real speratic the past few days for obvious reasons.
My girl’s basketball team won 40 to 0 Saturday. Yeah you read it right. I could not believe it either and I was there. Oh well my second string girls did great and got some scores themselves which is always a plus. We have one more regular season game next Saturday then our season end tournament starts.
On another basketball note my daughter tried out and made our local county 5th grade girls travel basketball team! I am so very proud of her. The knowledge and experience she will gain from this is invaluable. We will be doing 6 tournaments when travel ball season starts. I am very very proud of her. Girl’s basketball is super serious in these parts. The girls in our area are huge basketball fanatics. Our 4A girl’s high basketball team has 20 plus wins for the past 20 years. With several finals appearances and state championships, needless to say they start them young and run the high school offense and defense in all the elementary and junior highs and travel ball teams here in the county having them ready to go when they hit the high school court. I am very excited and can’t wait to see how our team will do.

Cardio and Update --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2 hours basketball practice
We had a great practice tonight. I really enjoy getting my cardio with my girls twice a week. Several weeks back running up and down the court for 30 min about killed me. Now I am able to run the duration of practice and do all the drills and running laps with them as well. The kids think its great because I am running and sweating with them. I am not running hills or pushing the prowler but running up and down the hardwood for two hours is tough. Think not? Run full court basketball all out and tell me what you think.
I am still getting over this flu bug. The antibiotics are working on me worse than anything. My appetite is coming back around. My aches that come with the flu are leaving. Being bed ridden for several days sucks.
Benching this weekend went well. Better than I thought it would. As I mentioned before I have gone back to a Westside Template for benching like I used to do. I am doing a dynamic day again which I have missed doing. Dave Hoff has helped me plan out my bench training for the next several months to get me back to where I was but better. I am keeping my acc work to no more than 3 to 4 movements after my DE day as well. I am staying away from all movements that irritate my elbows too. I hope all continues to go well this week. This Sunday for my ME bench is a scheduled shirt day. This will be my first shirt day in a long time. I am very excited.

With the two weeks rotation on pulls really helped me tonight. My back was in good shape to pull tonight. Not that 545 x 3 is huge but a PR for me none the less. I think my form is improving each time I pull. Taking all the advice from many lifters is really helping. My set up from the bar a couple inches back, getting my butt down, driving my feet into the floor, getting my head up and changing my hand placement is helping. Not perfect but better. I put the heat pad to my back as soon as I got in the house and took some anti-inflammatory as well.
My flu seems to be gone but I seem to have round 2 with my stomach right now. It’s really pissing me off because I am having to force myself to eat. Anything I eat is not sitting on my stomach well and is literally running right through me. Fun times.

This was a fun training session today. All the guys were getting real competitive with the push up thing which I have not done in forever. So we did some elevated blast strap pushups. Since my bench in right in front of the power rack we are able to put the bottoms of our feet on the bench bar when doing these push ups pressing all of our weight being fully elevated. This is a toughie for me. I won’t lie. This really fries my tris. It was funny watching some of our new guys shake like leaves on a tree trying to do these. Dustin had to put his feet on the ground because he could not even do one rep the way we were doing so we all gave him hell over it. After doing these everyone wanted to do some real pushups. I was already smoked but said ok lets do em. On our last sets we all said lets do as many as we could. Davon ended up getting 50. I told him I could beat that. He and the guys told me there was no way I could. I’m the old guy in there so they doubted me lol. So I get down there and start repping them out letting DaVon count them for me. Bad idea. I knew something was wrong when I started listening to his count. I was not sure where I was on the reps hence the reason I stopped to ask how many I had. He yells out 58! I thought cool I will do 2 more and get 60 and talk some trash. Turns out I was really at 48 and only done 50! He suckered me! Damnit! I tied him. Oh well the young buck pulled one on the old man. I get him next time.
Tim and Josh must have what I got. Josh could not make it and Tim walked in looking like the walking dead. I told him to get the hell out of dodge. If he was that sick he did not need to be there passing that crap back around. He left and we got busy. First I sprayed Lysol like crazy then we got busy.
My stomach still aint right so if I am feeling the same way tomorrow I am going back to the doctor. These stomach aches and diarrhea is getting old fast. Forcing myself to consume food through the day is not fun. I am not going to post my intake today not even worth mentioning.

This was my first time squatting in two weeks since getting the flu. Schwab called my numbers and box height. I felt like every time I was unracking the bar I kept loosing my arch. I made a quick modification to the hooks height and lowered the height about an inch. After doing this on my 735 I could tell the difference. I got a little forward with the 735 but knew what I did. On the 755 I really concentrated on pushing my knees out harder, this helped. I went back to a wider grip with my hand placement. The closer grip was really torqueing my shoulders. The wider grip felt allot better.
Davon and Charlie squatted today and did well on their high box sets. Tim and Dustin are down and out with he flu I had so they were a no show again today. I’m feeling better and my appetite is coming back. My stomach is still acting a little weird but getting better as well.
My daughter had travel ball practice last night and did well. She had rec ball practice tonight and the girls are looking prime to finish out the season tomorrow. This will be our last regular season game then the end of season tournament starts.
Good luck to Adam and Clint tomorrow at Schwab's meet.

After this my CNS was completely shot. I felt like I had run 10 miles or something. I could really tell my body had not done this kind of lifting handling this weight in quite sometime. I could tell I was searching for my groove on a few of my sets. All of the weights felt good and easy. I was really surprised since it has been 14 months since I have handled this kind of weight. The 740 got a little wobbly at the top but that’s to be expected. All in all I was very pleased with how I did. There is much work to do and allot to fix but I am very excited and ready to return to form and hunt a PR shirted bench soon.
A couple of our lifters are still sick and down so I called my good friend Mark Farris to see what time they were training today and to see if it was cool if the rest of us could join them training today. Mark said they would be glad to have us. So me, Charlie, and DaVon shot on up to Asheville to their gym and got busy. I want to thank Mark and Jennifer and their crew for all their help with my guys and me today. Mark is great lifter and a legend here in NC and I respect this man allot. I really appreciate all the help he and Jennifer have given me over the years and all the support they give me. Mark is holding his yearly NC SPF meet in Asheville, NC this April. Mark runs great meets and we really had a blast at his meet last year. If you’re looking for a meet and are near NC I highly recommend this meet. I have 4 of my guys doing this meet. So I look forward to seeing everyone there. Be sure to holla at me if you come. Thanks again everyone.

This is my off week for pulling to give my lower back a rest. I seem to pull better every two weeks anyway. Well if you consider what I pull better! This circuit was done one movement at a time then the next then the next and so on. Repeating each set four times. Not the Shrugs though. This really got my blood pumping and winded I will not lie. I like doing these circuits with no rest. Frey got me started doing these and I have continued to add them in every so often.
My elbow is still feeling good. I felt pretty beat up Monday but I expected that. I’m just glad the day went decent. I will not be back in my shirt for another two weeks the way my schedule is set up.
Yesterday I went in the gym to get something and when I opened the door I noticed chalk powder all over the entire gym. There were animal tracks everywhere and I mean everywhere. All over the floor all over the equipment. I was like what the hell has happened! I walked in and started looking around and found one of our cats Felix asleep in Tim’s gym bag. He had run amuck in the gym for at least 24 hours and made a ridiculous mess of things. I walked over to the chalk bowl and found the greatest surprise. He took a couple craps and urinated in the chalk bowl. I thought I was going to blow a gasket. I took the chalk bowl outside and emptied it and cleaned it out good. I then went and got the leaf blower and done a Schwab and used the blower to get all the dust, hair, and chalk out. It looked like a dust cloud coming out when I got started. I guess he slipped in when we were closing up Sunday I just did not see him come in. Be sure I will be on the look out from now on for that rascal.
