Hi Everyone, I'm looking for strong people to train with and learn from. The piece of advice about powerlifting that I hear more often than anything else is the importance of training with strong people who know what they're doing so you can learn to do things right (even more than "eat!" and "consistency over time yields results").
A little information about me- I'm 25, and I've been lifting for about five years, although I've only been training anything like right for about three. I'm fat and weak, and am holding off on competing until I feel like I can put up something respectable. I'm 6' tall, 245 pounds, and my best lifts in the gym are a 300 bench, a 475 deadlift, and a 455 squat (this was in briefs). Clearly I have a long way to go.
At the moment I train in my garage with some buddies of mine, but I think we're really missing out by not making the effort to find people who know what they're doing. I'm not looking for a place to train full time, but I am looking for somewhere I can go a few times a month and learn from experienced lifters. I can read all the internet articles in the world and I know it won't help me as much as learning from people who know what they're doing.
I'm living in Mebane and am willing to travel- I would have an easier time traveling on weekends, but I could reasonably make hour-long trips on weeknights if that's the only time anyone is training. Thanks all.

Hey man if I'm not mistaken Mebane is near Clayton and if so Brett Rapp is needing some more people. Go to www.ncupa.com and give him a shout and see. He's full of knowledge and a great guy, but be ready to work and be serious cause he don't play!
