In TC News Bulletin No 5 2007, John Stephenson (Chairman IPF Technical Committee) relates that the Technical Committee and Executive Committee have met on two occasions to discuss the future of the bench shirt. He indicates that the issue is an agenda item at this year's Congress. That's a departure from his past statements where he said that new generation bench shirts would no longer be allowed beginning January 1, 2008.
Stephenson also spends some time discussing Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUE) and how those procedures apply to a lifter's inability to lock-out their elbows during the Bench Press. He also notes that some have been using inserts to build-up the heel in boots worn by athletes. Stephenson congratulates individuals for satisfying requirements in becoming new and Cat II referees. He also congratulates a number of individuals for their contributions in making presentations to the IPF Congress.
It should be noted that he considers among his committees successes is: that proposals made by the TC was unanimously approved en-bloc, he is "pleased to invite Joachim Lehmann (Germany) onto the committee, replacing Myriam Busselot ( Belgium ) who was elected Vice President for theEuropean Region," the TC bulletin has been published in the IPF magazine and e-mails "have been answered punctually".
Stephenson notes that "Apart from Titan, no apparel has been received from the manufacturers for approval within the time frame ending 31st May 2007. On approval, these items will become legal for use in IPF competition from the 1st April 2008. Approval has been given to "one or two" logos and a set of racks. Our relations with all remain as cordial as ever." He also shares a score card of the nember of IPF referees represented by the various continents. The USA is second in the total number of available IPF referees.
Finally, in what appears to be a pre-emptive fair-well note, Stephenson writes; Often heard said - ' No news is good news ' - I guess that rings true with this editon of T.C. News. I am sure there will be more to relate following the Congress. Of course, it is possible (this being election year) that a different scribe could be pushing the pen in this column after October!!"
