I'm just curious about something. I thought I'd ask you guys for more of a general (non-biased, non-asshole) response... rather than my training partners. I'm growing very frustrated with this, and don't want to worry others or get some obnoxious answer. I want help and suggestions.
I feel like I've kind of lost my fire for some things, powerlifting included. No doubt, I still love lifting, but it just seems like a hassle, complicated and things like that. I want that fire back. I know some of it is due to stress and feeling like I'm spread so thin, but I want to fully enjoy lifting again.
Do any of you have any suggestions to getting that fire going again? Do I just have to wait it out until I'm through school? Change the training? Anything?

I've basically been doing that. I've been hitting lighter weights to stay fresh, but it's been hard getting to the gym. I kind of feel like I'm just going through the motions. It's tiring. How long did your funk last?

Yeah? Hmm.... I think I'm at about 3 weeks of good frustration. I know a couple weeks prior I had my moments. I probably do need to just relax, do what I want and wait it out. I'm hoping when I'm done with school, things will improve. Thanks, D.

Heather, I agree with Postal 100%. Just make lifting fun again whenever you train. Do whatever the hell "YOU" want to do. Putting pressure on yourself to train a certain way now will only make matters worse. Relax, train when you can, and have fun when you do it and you'll have that fire back before you know it. If I'm not careful myself I get the same way, I put to much pressure on myself and forget that powerlifting is a marathon not a sprint. Good luck and be patient and you'll be fine.

Thanks, Greg. That helped a lot. You're right... it's a marathon. I'm big on putting too muchp pressure on myself. I often times need to be reminded to "chill out".
I appreciate both of your words.

Youve trained through injuries and while you were healthy. Take a couple weeks off! A womans body doesnt respond the same as a mans, so you may be overtraining. But whatever you decide on, just remember not to quit. Its way to fuckin' hard to regain what you lose by not training at all. Good luck. You know the # if you want to talk.

I've had to take the last few training days off due to my shoulder being angry with me. I most certainly won't quit, just chill out, relax, have some fun. That seems to be the answer. It may all have to wait until I get some of this thesis done though. Grr... B, (sorry) lost the # when I had a cell phone issue. Give me a shout sometime 602.826.3090.

Heather, it's great to have you back posting on the boards again. There's only so many things we can do at one time, and you have been pushing yourself maybe more than you realize. Lifting WILL become fun again for you, and when it does, you will respond. Don't worry about it; you are a strong person and you will make it through the doldrums.
Hang in there!!!

Ive always felt that theres no fire without goals. One thing I tell my clients is that you constantly need short term goals to knock down.Whether its a pr or a bodyfat percentage,or whatever.Without goals,we're stagnant. They drive us.They are our fuel.
So ask yourself why your powerlifting right now.For yourself?Your next meet?Or just because you love it and cant imagine going into a gym and maintaining.Youll find your answer.

Listen to "Chorz" , the reply is dead on and is exactly what I tell people in our gym. Since the May meet in Mocksville I have done only Bodybuilding and have set some real low fat % goals to hit by this weekend and it's been a great change from the suits, bands, chains and all the other Powerlifting stuff. Now when I get back from Vac. I'll be hungry again to pound it out and hit some new PR's and get ready for that next PL meet. Also find ways to work around your shoulder injury, prior to the Mocksville meet I only did Decline presses in my training because they were the only heavy exercise that did not KILL my injured shoulder, and it worked I hit a Bench PR. NEVER GIVE UP!!!
