The Arnold Classic Bench Press Contest has always been viewed as one of the major draws on the main expo stage. It has been the site for many new World Records, and will continue to be. A new qualification format is being put in place for the 2008 Arnold Classic. Below is an outline of how to get into the Arnold!!!
There will be three qualifying meets each year to get to the Arnold Classic.
The first qualifier will be held in Columbus, Ohio at the Advanced Strength Concepts Bench Press Championships being held on July 15,2007. Meet Director, Kenny Patterson.
The next qualifier will be held in Dubuque, Iowa at the “Bench Bash for Cash on the Mississippi II” on September 1st, 2007. Meet Director, Bill Carpenter.
Those are the ONLY two qualifiers that will be held in the US.
The third qualifier will be the 2007 WPC World Bench Press Championships to be held in Russia in November.
How do you get in?
The winners of each division (LWT, HWT, SHW) at the 2007 Arnold are automatically invited back for the 2008 Classic to defend their title. This gives you the first 3 lifters for the 2008 Arnold contest.
By placing 1st or 2nd in any of the 3 qualifying contests in one of the three WPO divisions, LWT (132-181), HWT (198-242), SHW (275-SHW) will get you an automatic spot. These divisions will be won on a largest amount benched basis, not formula. This gives you the next 18 people that will “win” their way into the Classic for a total of 21 people.
This leaves 9 more openings for “at-large” births that will be determined by the 3 meet directors along with myself.
These at-large births will first be chosen from the three qualifying meets. Should there not be any suitable lifters to choose from this can be expanded to include any sanctioned APF event during the 2007 calendar year.
In the event that a current Arnold Classic champion competes in one of the qualifying events and places 1st or 2nd in his respective division the next lifter in that division will “win” their way in.
Please keep in mind that these last 9 spots can also include female guest lifters or anything of the such.
Kenny Patterson is now helping Me/WPO besides running his contest. This year he got us a new group of hot card-girls for the AC. For 2008 AC WRBB Kenny will be combing the Columbus area to get local sponsorship for prize money. He feels confident that as a Columbus native he can get $10K since all the locals love the AC. So I'm making Kenny the Director of WPO Bench Press Operations. This will help ease the load Amy/Myself have to deal with running the APF/WPC.
