1. SM: Looking at your web page you are done it all, power lifting, Scottish Highland Games, body building, Olympic Bobsled, Strongwoman and Football. What sport are you the most passionate about and why?
SH: My passion changes all the time. I always like a new challenge. I love learning new techniques and new training methods when I start a new sport. I push myself to the limit in every sport I do. I am not really a weekend warrior.
2. SM: How long have you been powerlifting and what got you interested?
SH: I have been powerlifting one and half years and through different sports I have met Becca, Jill, Amy, and Kara. They were always trying to get me to try powerlifting.
3. SM: What are some of your interests outside powerlifting?
SH: I love SCUBA diving, ice climbing, kayaking, and anything in the outdoors.
4. SM: What are both your short and long term goals relative to the sport of powerlifting?
SH: To break the world record in the 148 pound squat.
5. SM: I believe you are currently training at Big Iron in Nebraska. First, we all hope for the best for Rick Hussey and his recovery from recent surgery. What are three things that you learned from Rick Hussey and Becca that you think have helped you the most?
SH: There are so many things that I have learned from Rick Hussey. I don't know where to start. The three biggest things I have learned from him are how to use my gear properly and perfecting my techniques in all three lifts. Also, Rick really knows how to change the form for different body types especially for women. Using that knowledge, I am able to lift effectively for my body type.
6. SM: Please give us a breakdown of your weekly training schedule.
SH: Monday- Bench
Wednesday- Deads
Thursday- Arms
Saturday- Squats
7. SM: What does your diet consist of?
SH: I eat everything organic. No red meat. High protein foods like chicken, fish, and turkey. I love all fruits and vegetables.
8. SM: What’s next on your schedule?
SH: Next on my schedule is APF Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida. The next week I have APC Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia.
9. SM: Who would you like to thank?
SH: I would like to thank Inzer . I would also like to thank my trainer Rick Hussey and everyone at Big Iron, King Pin Gym, Diablo Barbell, Rene Nielson, and John Ford.
Thanks for your time Shannon; and good luck at Senior Nationals and on your quest of breaking the 148 squat records.
