[Joey Smith]

My name is Joey Smith and I am a power lifter (Bench specialist). I have been training for ten years. I live in Nebo, N.C. and I train with some of the top power lifters in the game here in NC. I have gotten more serious over the past couple years with improvements in my lifts and winning a few events here in N.C. I train with Rodney Coates, Mike Schwanke, Chris "Ox" Mason, Travis Mash, Chris Cooke, Chris Clark, Tim Higgins, Barry Williams and many other great lifters here in NC. I am 32 years old. I am married and have one child, my 5-year-old daughter, Katelyn. I currently work for the NCDOT and I am a fitness trainer at our local Y.M.C.A. I am a college graduate of McDowell Technical Community College (Associates of Applied Science Degree in Industrial Electrical/Electronics Technology ‘99) and Gardner - Webb University (Bachelors of Science Business MGT. Administration ‘06) in Boiling Springs, NC.

I compete in the 275# weight class and I currently (as of 04/01/06) hold the NC APF (American Power Lifting Federation) Men’s Open Bench record with a 700# bench. I have performed five equipped (Bench Shirt) events and all of these have accomplished in the last six months. I have four first places wins and one-second place. I hold the SC APF Men’s Open Bench record with a 630# Bench and hold the NC IBF Men’s Open Bench record with a 630# Bench as well. My best RAW bench is 545#'s. I have only been training with equipment (Bench Shirt) for about 7 months. I have had a 115# increase in my bench in the last 7 months due to training with Mason, Mash and Cooke. I drive 2 hours one way every Friday to train heavy bench with these athletes. My next meet will be the United States Senior National this year in Las Vegas in June. People ask me all the time where the hell is Nebo? I have a feeling they will soon know.
